The history of the Faculty of Sociology begins in 1998, when University of Bialystok established the Institute of Sociology. Over next 25 years it functioned as part of the Faculty of History and Sociology and then as an autonomous Institute. The Faculty of Sociology was established by a decision of the Rector of University of Bialystok in 2023.
Staff members of the Faculty of Sociology focus on the issues of borderlands, multiculturalism and migration, which correspond to the cultural specificity of our region. Academics also deal with the issues of broadly understood transformations of contemporary Polish society. They focus on socio-political changes, religiousness, intercultural dialogue, cultural aspects of social structure and new social divisions and more.
Faculty educates full-time undergraduate (first degree) and graduate (second degree) sociology students. Second-degree graduates have the opportunity to continue their studies at the Doctoral School of Social Sciences (third degree).
Sociological studies are addressed to those who wish to broaden their horizons, explore the basics of human relations, improve their communication activities and methodological skills, learn about the laws of psychology and social philosophy, the operation of groups and institutions. During the course of study, students will also acquire practical skills, which will be developed in the first degree programme through practical modules and work placements, and in the second degree programme through specialisations. Our graduates successfully work in opinion and marketing research centres, mass media, local governments, cultural institutions, educational institutions, non-governmental organisations, HR and PR departments of companies working in various industries.
